Branch Events Autumn 2011 to Spring 2012

The branch is strongly committed to conserving our rich butterfly fauna and to that end we carry out a number of work parties between September and March. Each work party is targeted on habitat that supports some of our rare species such as the High Brown, Pearl Bordered and Marsh Fritillary butterflies. A typical work party will commence with a walk in to the work site, a short safety brief will then be given and protective gloves and hand tools issued. The planned work will then start, there is a break for lunch, often around a fire in which case hot soup is usually provided to supplement your sandwiches. We then work on until about 3pm before packing up and leaving the site. We have two qualified chainsaw operators and several brush cutter operators within the membership so whilst a peaceful day cannot be assured, we can guarantee you will be impressed by what has been achieved at the end of the day!

Our work parties are open to everyone, members or not. Bring a packed lunch and dress for the Cumbrian weather with a warm and waterproof clothing layer. Ensure you wear stout footwear and if indicated in the work party programme, Wellingtons.

I do hope you will be able to join us doing this valuable work sometime during the year.
