Overview

The distribution maps show that this species is widespread in Cumbria, but you are unlikely to find it in any great numbers nowadays. In the 1990’s it was much more numerous and whilst it is not considered to be under threat there is no doubt numbers have dwindled significantly. It is very similar to the Small Skipper and can be mistaken for it.

Where to look

Found almost anywhere but best places are on the Cumbrian coastal strip from Furness northwards, with the West Cumbria coastal ‘brownfield’ sites being very good.

When to look

First week in June until first week in August
