Overview
A large butterfly that is the most common summer migrant from southern Europe. Annual numbers are highly variable. It does not generally survive the British winter
Where to look
This species can be seen almost anywhere in Cumbria including Gardens, woodland, and scrub. In Autumn it is strongly attracted to rotten fruit
Nectars on thyme, clover and ivy
When to look
Early to mid Spring for over wintering adults, July to October, peaking in late September.
