Overview The Ringlet is a butterfly of WET GRASSLAND found commonly in the north and west of the county but is only very recently being found in small numbers in the south reflecting an expansion of its range in Cumbria. Butterflies found round the Penrith area are often found without the characteristic spots on the ring, or with these much diminished and are locally known as ‘Ringless’ Where to look Look for an area of wet, lush grassland almost anywhere in the north and west of the county at the right time of year and you have a high chance of finding the Ringlet. For example, Finglandrigg NNR NY 283 572 or Ennerdale Longmoor common NY 088 153 are two likely sites. When to look Any time in July |
