Overview

A new species to the county, the first confirmed record in Cumbria is from Brigsteer Park Wood in July 2008 The butterfly lives in the canopy of Elm trees and hedges and is often widely overlooked because of its sedentary nature.

Where to look

Brigsteer Park Wood (SD486877). This butterfly is found in low numbers on the Cumbria-Lancashire border at Gaitbarrows NNR, SD485775 (a permit is required, telephone 015395 31604), Yealand Allotment, SD490763: Trowbarrow, SD481758. Best seen flying to and from Elm canopy to adjacent trees.
